We Need Your Help
Loaves & Fishes has many opportunities for volunteers. Volunteers can come just once, or on a regular basis, such as once a week or once a month. Individuals or groups can volunteer. Volunteers can be as young as elementary school age. We have also had volunteers who were over 90 years old. Call Loaves & Fishes at (336) 570-4668 to discuss volunteer opportunities in detail. Below are some of the ways you can volunteer.

Interviewing
You can volunteer by interviewing persons who are applying for food assistance. Interviewers are needed from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Most of our interviewing volunteers come once a week on the same day each week. Some training by the Office Manager and other experienced volunteers is required before you can conduct interviews. All interviews are conducted in the Administrative Office.

Stocking Shelves and Making Bags
You can volunteer to put food on shelves and then put food into bags for distribution. Food volunteers are needed from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Most food volunteers come once a week on the same day each week. Some training by the Executive Director is required before you can volunteer in the Food Distribution Center. Volunteers should wear shoes that do not have toes exposed. Volunteers can also stock shelves and make bags on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in support of home delivery.

Unload Food Bank Truck
You can volunteer to help unload food from the food bank truck. This is physically demanding and requires very little training. Volunteers are called a day or two before the truck comes. We get food from the food bank as often as every two weeks. Sometimes as many as two or three months may go by between food bank deliveries. Deliveries are usually made in the morning on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

Loading Vehicles
You can volunteer to load food into the vehicles of our clients. Loading volunteers are needed from 9:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Most loading volunteers come once a week on the same day each week. Some training by the Executive Director is required before you can load vehicles. Volunteers should wear shoes that do not have toes exposed. This activity requires some lifting and is physical in nature. Volunteers can also load vehicles on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in support of home delivery.

Home Delivery
You can volunteer to deliver food to our clients who are unable to come to Loaves & Fishes to pick up their food. Food is delivered once a month, usually on the second weekend of the month. Volunteers use their own vehicle to deliver food. Volunteers come to the Food Distribution Center between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on home delivery day. Other volunteers load food in your vehicle and you are given a sheet of driving directions to follow to deliver food to no more than five residences. It usually takes no more than 45 minutes to complete a home delivery route. We recommend that two persons, one to drive and one to read directions, do home delivery.

Lunch Bunch
You can volunteer the second and fourth Saturday mornings of each month to make and deliver bag lunches to clients who live in subsidized housing. This is a good activity for a group and only takes one to two hours to complete. No training is required. Call (336) 570-4668 to check for an available date.

Special Events
You can also volunteer during many special events that Loaves & Fishes has all year. Some examples are fundraising events, yard sales, Thanksgiving lunch, Make-A-Difference Day, Letter Carriers Food Drive, and other special activities that come up from time to time. Call (336) 570-4668 to learn what is available.
